Photographing People Part 1

Photographing People, part one in a three part series, is a fast-paced seminar style class for those looking to take their technique to the next level. It’s about lighting, perspective, color and creativity. Best of all, it’s about the thought process behind solving challenging situations. The class size is small, limited to 15 students, so you are sure to get the personal contact needed to understand the techniques. There will be diplomas for each student at the end of the course. You will learn:

Outdoor Lighting-reflective, subtractive, diffused, tungsten and other location lighting techniques. Midday sun? No problem!
Indoor Lighting-effective, powerful and simple set ups.
Perspective-choose the right lenses and f-stops; a must for top notch photographs.
Posing-how to do it, avoid it and some options in between.
Digital Workflow-learn to be efficient so you still have a life. We will demonstrate and have for sale the Photoshop actions that cut our computer time in half without compromising quality.
Photoshop Actions-your move-in expert.
Color vs. black and white-how and when to use both.
Proofing-we’ll demonstrate a digital proofing system that let’s others enjoy viewing large images without risking copyright infringements.
Inspiration-no burn out here, how to get and stay inspired!
Photo Demonstration with Model-see the techniques put into practice so you will go home technically prepared to ROCK!

Photographing People Part 2

Photographing People, part two in a three part series, builds on the techniques taught in part one. Students have had time to put the techniques into practice and will have a practical understanding of each technique. Part 2 will build on the basics and evolve into more advanced lighting solutions. Problem solving will again be emphasized to ensure the student’s ability to perform even in difficult circumstances. This will be a seminar/demonstration style class, limited to 15 students, emphasizing advanced lighting techniques. There will be diplomas for each student at the end of the course. You will learn:

Outdoor Lighting-we will expand on the reflective, subtractive, diffused, tungsten and other location lighting techniques taught in part 1.
Indoor Lighting-how, where and why techniques to build on the basics.
Perspective-we will review and answer questions on perspective, a must for that professional look.
Photo Competitions-we’ll give you the basics on what the judges are looking for, a review of common “mistakes” and tips for standing out in the crowd.
Inspiration-as always we’ll take a look at things that inspire!
Photo Demonstration with Model-see the techniques put into practice so you’ll go home with answers and the motivation to really improve your work.

Photographing People Workshop Part 3

Salt Lake City, Utah, May 3, 2008

Photographing People Workshop is part three of the Photographing People series. This workshop will be an exciting, practical, hands-on experience that will give each student the ability to practice their techniques in a coached situation. There will be a combination of instructor demonstrations and actual student photography. Each student will be paired up with another student and given a model to photograph. You will participate both as an assistant and as a photographer with an assistant so that we are sure the techniques taught in parts one and two are properly mastered. This culminating workshop is a rare chance to practice and get real life experience and feedback in a setting where you can ask questions and problem solve with a professional coach! You’ll even go home with photographs you’ve taken of your model to use in your next marketing campaign.

A Personal Note from Kenneth Linge
Hi, I'm Kenneth Linge, your photographic instructor at The International School of Photography. For those of you who don't know me, I am a native Norwegian married to an American. After photographing professionally and lecturing extensively in Europe for 25 years, my wife and I moved our family to Utah in 2000, ending the 90's as Scandinavia's most award-winning photographer. I then began photographing weddings throughout the United States.

Teaching is, for me, as much of a passion as photography and while I have taught continuously in Europe, I have waited to teach about wedding photography in the U.S. until I felt I had mastered American weddings. Our quick rise to success in the American market can be contributed to many things-our lighting techniques borrowed from the fashion world, our PR from magazine shoots, and good networking with great vendors–but mostly from a solid understanding of good photographic technique.

In Scandinavia, the return rate for photographers attending my courses is extremely high. Many of the "Photographers of the Year" in Denmark, Norway and Sweden attribute much of their success to the techniques they learned at my seminars. I don't say this to brag, but I want you to know that The Photography People Seminars will be an intensive learning experience; you can safely expect results. I really care about giving you the information you need to take your photography to the next level.
