Statue of Responsibility & Gary Lee Price

I am so fortunate to have been the photographer for The Statue of Responsibility Foundation now for about 4 years. It is a fantastic project, read this words by Victor E. Frankl from his famous book Man’s Search for Meaning. ” Freedom is not the last word. Freedom is only part of the story and half of the truth. The positive aspect of freedom is responsibility. That is why I recommend that the Statue of Liberty on the East Coast of the United States be supplemented by a Statue of Responsibility on the West Coast”. One of my heros Gary Lee Price is the creator of the monument itself, and I’m proud to count him among my friends and thank him for his inspiration to me. Just like Dr. Frank survived the Holocaust, Gary have had his own very painful experiences and suffering but have risen above it. Read this in his own words:”……at age 6,being awakened by gun shots and running through our apartment in the Heidelberg, Germany,Army barracks, to find my mom lying in a pole of blood, having been shot at the hands of my stepfather. I vividly remember standing over my mom and crying while she looked up at me with her beautiful green eyes but couldn’t utter a word. I remember hearing my stepfather falling against the silverware drawer as he shot himself in the head……” Gary Lee Price suffered through this and many other horrible experiences to become a wonderful loving man and fantastic artist. Just wanted to share this so you can see what kind of wonderful people I get to work with on this project. The image of the day is Gary working on the 13 ft clay prototype of the monument in his studio. The finished monument will be 300 ft tall in stainless steel.
